Dr. Lappen earned her doctorate in the USC Counseling Psychology program. She is a generalist with a clinical orientation that incorporates interpersonal, psychodynamic and multicultural theory and technique. She conducts individual and couple counseling and co-facilitates therapy groups. Additionally, she does out-reach to UCLA students with a specialty in the area of procrastination. Her research interests include community and family violence, and female perpetrators of domestic violence. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, dancing, eating, and spending time outdoors.
Melissa Magaro, M.A.

Melissa is a predoctoral intern at SPS for the 2007-2008 academic year. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Clinical Psychology program at UCLA, where she also earned her Master’s degree. Throughout her training Melissa has gained experience working with clients within a variety of theoretical frameworks including cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, acceptance-based, and mindfulness. Melissa works collaboratively to help clients identify treatment goals and agree upon how therapy will promote progress toward those goals. She is particularly interested in working with mood and anxiety disorders in addition to working with developmental issues related to the transition to adulthood.
