Anger Management
This 8-session group will help participants learn how to express anger successfully (without scaring others), make themselves heard (without the headache) and master self control (without over-heating). A 30-minute orientation appointment with Colby Moss, LCSW is required to join the group.

Asian American Self-Esteem
This is a reflective, informative, and skill-building group dedicated to helping Asian American undergraduate students learn more about themselves and improve self-esteem,a core foundation to contentment and productive living. Members discuss a variety of topics to enhance self-esteem: identity, cultural issues, family relationships, dating, social skills, coping strategies, motivation and achievement.

Disordered Eating
This group is open to students with eating disorders and to those with unhealthy/disordered eating behaviors who may not meet the full criteria for an eating disorder. Specifically, members will learn to develop skills for creating a healthier lifestyle, challenging destructive behaviors and enhancing relationships. This seven week group is designed to help members more fully understand the connection between eating behaviors and emotions. Screenings have begun for this quarter. Space is limited. This group is led by Gia Marson, Ed.D. and Melissa Magaro, M.A.

Dissertation Writer's Group I & II
This group is for graduate students wanting a safe and supportive place to discuss issues and challenges regarding the Thesis or Dissertation writing process and to share ways to bring this arduous process to fruition. Topics typically discussed include procrastination, writing blocks, perfectionism, time management, confidence issues and conflicts with peers and professors. An intake appointment with Dr. Nagamoto is required prior to enrollment in the Dissertation Writer’s Group.

Entre Mujeres
Entre mujeres is a support group where female students can discuss Latino cultural issues relevant to their educational successes and challenges. Topics will include family relationships, identity, dating, work, social demands and the impact of these issues on your UCLA experience.

Finding Focus: Strategies for Students with Learning Difficulties
A structured psycho-educational group designed to help those with ADHD and other academic difficulties: This group will have five main treatment goals: identify strengths and weaknesses related to academic difficulties, understand how to maximize attention, concentration and memory, increase skills to improve academic performance, decrease anxiety and manage stress and manage personal, social and campus support to improve college success.
This group will be an on-going five-session structured psycho-educational group that will continue to run through the end of the academic year.
Session 1- How do I focus? Understanding attention, concentration and memory.
Session 2- How do I prioritize? Priorities, procrastination and time management.
Session 3- How do I study effectively? Maximizing academic performance.
Session 4- How do I de-stress? Managing stress and anxiety.
Session 5- How do I manage my relationships? Understanding how focus, attention and organization can be improved in personal relationships.

Gay/Bi Men's Psychotherapy Group
An ongoing group for gay and bi men. Led by a psychologist, the group will address issues unique to gay and bi men, as well as more general concerns. Objectives of the group include developing better communication and relationship skills, improving self esteem, increasing social support, and defining a comfortable level of self-community connection. An in-person intake interview with the group leader is required before admission to the group.

Graduate Students Psychotherapy Group
The graduate student psychotherapy group provides support for students pursuing masters and doctorate degrees. The group consists of 6-8 members who discuss interpersonal issues including family, romantic partnerships, feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety, and multicultural issues. The group also provides a unique opportunity for honest interpersonal exploration, allowing one to learn how to build more rewarding relationships in life. Information disclosed during sessions is kept confidential. Students from the same department are placed in different groups. Group will accept new members at the beginning of each quarter. An intake appointment with either Kathleen Lambird Ph.D. or Liam Zaidel Ph.D is required for this group.

Graduate Students Psychotherapy Group for Women
This group provides a supportive and safe environment for women to discuss the challenges of the graduate/professional school experience. Issues that will be explored include academic concerns, family, friendships, romantic relationships, as well as other issues that might arise for the members. Information disclosed during the group is kept confidential and students from the same department are not placed in the same group. An intake appointment with Bonnie Zucker, Ph.D. or Christine Zhou M.Ed. is required for this group.

Graduating Seniors Group
The Graduating Seniors Group is a place where seniors can come together to discuss ambivalent feelings including loss, anxiety and uncertainty about life after graduation. This group is co-sponsored by The Career Center and will address concrete post-graduation issues such as career choices and facing life in the “real world” as well as provide an exchange of support from peers who are facing similar emotions and challenges involved in this major life transition.

Maintaining Healthy Lifestyles
Problems with alcohol and drugs can negatively affect one’s performance and progress in school as well as other areas in life. This group will focus on exploring how the use of alcohol and drugs may have led to difficulties in one’s life, how they influence behavior, and ways to reduce reoccurring problems.

Mixed Anxiety Therapy Group
This treatment group is for students struggling with any form of anxiety including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors, health related worry, and panic attacks. This is a structured, skills-focused group that uses cognitive-behavioral and acceptance based strategies to help break the cycle of anxiety.

Mood Management
This group is open to students seeking help in their struggles with mood and depression. We will focus on both reducing the hold that mood has over us, as well as leaning how to live a more productive and fulfilling life in spite of the presence of difficulties with mood. We will follow a semi-structured cognitive-behavioral approach, with room for members to explore their specific challenges and chart a personal path toward increased well-being. We will meet weekly for 6-sessions, and participation will be limited to 8 members in order to facilitate greater individual attention.

Positive Coping: An HIV+ Support Group
A closed, confidential group for students who are HIV+. Led by a psychologist, the group will address any and all issues related to being HIV+. Objectives of the group are to increase social support, improve self esteem, learn more about HIV and health maintenance, balance health and academic demands, help resolve spiritual/existential conflicts and promote healthy sexuality. An in-person intake interview with the group leader is required before admission to the group.

Social Anxiety Therapy Group
Do you feel uncomfortable in social situations? This therapy group is designed for students who experience anxiety in a variety of social situations including: speaking in front of groups/classroom situations, initiating and maintaining conversations, meeting new people, going to parties, and being assertive. It is a 10-week, structured, skills-focused group that will help you to understand your individual patterns of anxiety and ways to manage anxiety differently.

Transforming Grief & Loss
In this group, folks are invited into a healing journey where movement through the process of grief and loss is supported. The opportunity for one to begin mourning loss and restoring emotional and physical well-being will be provided for in a confidential setting where one’s unique experience can be shared at one’s own pace. At the same time, opportunities to reflect upon the stages of grief and develop personalized ways to cope with and transmute loss will also be explored. This group is led by Andrew Felder Ph.D. and Vonnie Hedgepeth M.A.
